Drawing: Drawing for Beginners

The word 'drawing' means the act of making marks on a picture plane. If you can write your name, you can draw. Students will learn drawing techniques such as contour, positive/negative space and value and experiment with drawing materials such as pencils, Sharpies, charcoal, ink and conte. Students will draw natural and man-made objects and learn to break down complicated subjects into basic shapes. We will explore a variety of exercises and reference master drawings. Printmaking - Printed Notecards Workshop  

Using several exciting printmaking techniques students will create their own original notecards. Emphasis will be on hand-printing techniques, as well as using a basic block press. Color and black & white printing will be explored along with hand coloring techniques. A supply fee of $15 will be due to instructor at the beginning of the class.

Beginning Sketching

Do you want to capture a scene quickly? Students will learn various sketching techniques to capture the moment. Gesture, value, line and color sketching will be explored. A variety of materials and subject matter will be practiced. Master drawings will be referenced. Students bring supplies. Supply list available upon registration. (6 sessions)

Printmaking: Waterless Lithography Ages 16+

Thursdays January 31 - February 28, 2019

Waterless Lithography is perfect for seasoned printmakers and beginners alike! Drawings will be transformed into original hand printed lithographs using aluminum plates, and water soluble drawing materials such as sharpies, ink washes, and omnichrom pencils. Students will learn this safer printmaking technique through creating their own images and instructor demonstrations. We will experiment with black and white and multi color printing, as well as, chine colle. Finished prints can later be incorporated in other mixed media work or stand on their own! Students should bring ideas/drawings to first class. Plate size will be 5×7 inches.

Printmaking with Photo Transfers Ages 16+

Thursdays March 14 - April 11, 2019

Learn how to transform your photos into multi colored original lithographs! Using the technique of waterless lithography, photo transfers will be made using your personal photos or copyright free images. Plates will be processed and then printed using an etching press. Students will experiment will a selection of printmaking papers and learn the technique of the multicolored “rainbow roll.” At the end of the class you will have a unique, hand printed edition. Students should bring ideas/drawings to first class. Plate size will be 5×7 inches.

Printmaking: Jigsaw Relief Ages 16+

Learn the basics of Jigsaw Relief Printmaking! Jigsaw printmaking is a process of relief printmaking in which linoleum blocks are cut up like puzzle pieces. The pieces are individually inked in separate colors and then reassembled and printed. Multi-color prints will be passed through the printing press or printed by hand. Additional textures and patterns can be worked back into the pieces. Students will also create their own pressure printed decorative papers. Bring ideas for 2-3 projects.

What Is Waterless Lithography?
Images are drawn on aluminum plates and processed using ordinary silicone. Using this safe technique, students will print a limited edition of original lithographs.( 6-8 prints)

Stone Lithography

Students will learn how to create black & white original stone lithographs.Images will be drawn on a freshly  grained limestone, processed and  printed using traditional stone lithography techniques. Safer processing will be used.  Students will print a limited edition of original lithographs.( 6-8 prints)
